Introducing 2020, a bold reimagining of the university’s web presence.

The first redesign in five years, 2020 captures the optimism, confidence, and energy that is LMU. It puts our academic programs, research, and campus experience front and center, while aligning the university’s primary communication channel with its visual identity.

Among the enhancements, the new LMU Homepage features a Programs search tool, so immediately on arrival, prospects can explore our 150-plus degrees, certificates and credentials. Reflecting the university’s Carnegie R2 status, we’ve added a Research panel showcasing LMU faculty and student work in the sciences, technology, arts, and humanities. A Picture LMU slideshow helps visitors appreciate the beauty and diversity of our three campuses, while a curated Events calendar shows off the vitality of LMU activities outside the classroom. Finally, Athletics is proudly represented on the LMU Homepage, for the first time, through a schedule and ticketing panel.

Program Finder

The LMU Program Finder has been completely rebuilt. Because it’s a top page for prospective students we’ve added instant search, cascading filters, and a more intuitive Areas of Study selector. The new Finder also lets departments add meta keywords. So, for example, someone searching for ‘Mickey’ can find the LMU Animation program, whether or not the term is specifically mentioned in the program’s outward-facing description.

With the launch of 2020, the university introduces a new, unified Apply page for prospective undergraduate, graduate, law, and continuing education students. Built in collaboration with Enrollment Management, the page simplifies the application process, supplying the most common information applicants seek. Apply is one of five new Gateways.

Gateways 2020 brings to the university website five new Gateway pages which, through a combination of text, photography, and video, tell the extended narrative of key university verticals. In the process, they consolidate in one place content previously spread across departments. The Office of the Provost, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs were key partners in crafting these pages. In addition to Apply, we launch with About, Academics, Campus Life, and Research.

As gorgeous as 2020 is on desktop and laptop screens, we built it to give our growing mobile audience an equally dazzling and pain-free experience. Clean menus, intelligently resized content, and video that adapts to the user’s connection speed and screen size put 2020 at the leading edge of higher education web technology.

Performance and Compliance

A key goal of 2020 has been to make the university web site fast and accessible. Under the hood, we’ve optimized and restructured code to provide a great browsing experience, while enhancing LMU’s digital storytelling ability. In other words, departments can publish more rich content without sacrificing user experience.

Our users have varying levels of physical ability and LMU websites recognize that. We seek to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 requirements as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

A Rolling Roll-out 2020 launches with the university Homepage, Undergraduate Admission, and two schools: Seaver College of Science and Engineering and the School of Film and Television. In the coming weeks, staff from the Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs digital team will be in contact with departments to schedule their site migrations. Because of the way the new site is styled and coded, little to no effort will be required by site owners.
