Closing a social media account is not a sign of failure but a strategic decision. It may be determined that your channel does not meet a unique need, competes with other channels, or is not staffed adequately to maintain a consistent social presence.
- Review social media guidelines and Social Media Strategy Worksheet to discern whether your social media channel is necessary to achieve your area’s marketing goals.
- Discuss with supervisor, MarComm area leader, and social team. Consider ways to collaborate with other areas or use other communication vehicles to share messages and achieve goals.
- Archive any relevant content or metrics.
- Close the channel, and alert your MarComm area leader or the central social team, so your channel can be removed from relevant directories.
