Every organization is vulnerable to a crisis, and LMU is no different. The Media Relations team works closely with the Department of Public Safety to handle communications in the event of an emergency. As members of the Emergency Management Committee, our staff have created contingency plans and participated in both mock disaster exercises and FEMA training exercises.
Additionally, the university could face a crisis stemming from negative publicity rather than a disaster. In a fast-paced world, viral stories—true or not—can cause lasting damage to reputations. Along with our social media colleagues, Media Relations staff monitor news media and online discussion about LMU. When appropriate, we work with senior leadership to respond to false information and ensure public statements reflect the university’s positions without inadvertently allowing rumors or misinformation to spread.
